Culinary specialities of the Hradec Králové Region
If you want to make the most of your time in the Hradec Králové Region, you should try one of the traditional dishes. You will find a great many of them in all corners of the region.
If you pay a visit to Hradec Králové – the dowry town of Queen Elisabeth – and its surroundings, you should definitely visit one of the stylish restaurants in the historical part of the town. If you decide to explore the region in its further parts – for instance in the Kladsko Borderland do not forget to taste the famous Pavlišovský schnitzel which you can wash down with a beer called Primátor from the Náchod brewery, which is the most popular local drink.
In Bohemian Paradise you can taste Hanušky. This is the name for goldly baked potato pancakes. There is also a number of regional beers – Dětenické, Klášter, Rohovec, Novopacké and famous Svijany. If you are into organic farms and agriculture, Bohemian Paradise is a perfect place for you. There are several organic farms where you can buy not only fruit and vegetables but also dairy and meat products.
If you visit the Orlické or Krkonoše Mountains, you also find some tasty dishes there. In the Orlické Mountains and its foothills we recommend trying meat mixture Rampušák named after the mythic figure – the emperor of the Orlické Mountains - Rampušák. At the end of the day spent in the mountains you can warm up by the natural fruit liquor from the Podorlická sodovkárna (soft drink factory).
In the highest mountains – Krkonoše Mountains – we suggest tasting the traditional soup Krkonoše Mountains kyselo. In the evening taste a beer Krakonoš - named after the local emperor of the mountains - in one of the local pubs. If you have a sweet tooth you should definitely go for hořické trubičky (hořické rolls) originated from picturesque Hořice, a little town in the Podkrnoší Lowlands.
